Für das zweite Playdate haben wir uns eine Aufgabe aus dem ‚Photographer’s Playbook‚ ausgesucht. In diesem Buch wurden über 300 ‚Aufgaben‘ von Fotografen aller Art und Länder zusammengetragen, zum Teil ganz kurze, sehr spielerische Ideen, zum Teil Vorschläge, wie man aus einem kreativen Stillstand herauskommen könnte, zum Teil Aufgaben, die Studenten bekommen und vieles mehr.

Die Wahl fiel auf diese Aufgabe von Alison Morley:

Tell Me a Story

Tell me a story in five to seven pictures. It can be about anything, but it must have a beginning, middle, and end. It can be about one person or one place or one thing. Keep your focus narrow so that you really have a chance to delve into the specific story. This assignment could take a week or a year – it’s all up to you. You could shoot five thousand frames or fifty.
It is not the amount of images you make that matters, rather that each picture gets to the heart, the essence of what the narrative wants to express. You may not know the actual story in the beginning, but slowly you will narrow it down so that it makes sense to the viewer without any captions at all.
Humanize your subjects; inspire me to travel to wherever you are. Compel me to look.

Stories have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation, and instilling values. The best way to communicate and unify your work is by making a story. Show me something I may have seen already, but not in this way. Everything has been photographed before, but not by you.

Hier geht es also darum, mit seinen Fotografien am Ende eine Geschichte zu erzählen, die ohne weitere Erläuterungen auskommt. Auch wenn am Anfang die eigentliche Geschichte selbst dem Fotografen nicht bekannt sein mag, so wird sie sich im Laufe der Zeit immer deutlicher zeigen.
Da das eine Aufgabe ist, die Katrin gerne analog bearbeiten möchte, brauchen wir beide hierfür etwas mehr Zeit, allerdings kein Jahr, wie Alison Morley vorschlägt, aber doch bis Ende August.

Nun, ich bin ein wenig aufgeregt, denn eine Geschichte in mehreren Bildern zu erzählen, sie also bewusst zu fotografieren, ist für mich absolutes Neuland und spielt so auch wieder dem Verlassen der Komfortzone in die Hände. Noch habe ich keine Idee, aber es wird schon werden und muss noch ein wenig reifen.
